Waimakariri State of Emergency
Extended
The State of Emergency in Waimakariri District has been extended until noon on Wednesday 15 September 2010.
The State of Emergency in Waimakariri was declared following the earthquake which struck Canterbury on Saturday 4 September 2010.
“We have extended the Waimakariri State of Emergency to align with Christchurch, which has also extended its State of Emergency following additional damage from aftershocks,” said Bruce Thompson, Waimakariri Civil Defence Controller.
“Extending the State of Emergency will allow us to continue using the special powers provided under the Civil Defence Act to ensure community safety and health, and to begin to transition to the recovery process which will require a huge and ongoing effort from a wide range of organisations.”
