Fare issue wont go away!
Thanks Go Wellington! It may have been a tough call, reintroducing the Gold Pass for $135.
Cr Paul Bruce, Greater Regional Councilor, says that the fare issue wont go away, as "this didn't resolve a fundamental problem with the increase of basic fares from 1st October. The negotiations were not about a comprehensive fare package to resolve differences between off peak periods and fare concessions over different modes and operators. They were simply to increase fare recovery by 3% and allow for the introduction of GST. If GW wasn't able to resolve these differences, then it should have delayed any fare increase until it was able to move to the new procurement model of "gross" system of contracts, where fare revenue comes to the Council, as is the case with the rail contract".
Go Wellington were pressurized by Greater Wellington into re-introducing the Gold Pass fare after declaring it unsustainable.
Cr Bruce said that he was urging Greater Wellington to urgently schedule a fare workshop to consider integrated ticketing along with fare concessions.
