Eleventh season of the Adam Chamber Music Festival
Eleventh season of the Adam Chamber Music Festival
Nelson
is set to cement its growing reputation as the ‘Salzburg
of the South’ with the eleventh season of the Adam Chamber
Music Festival in February next year.
The ten day
festival opens on February 3 with a Gala Dinner & Concert at
Woollaston Estates, featuring Canadian clarinettist James
Campbell, the outstanding Russian Hermitage String Trio,
Hiroshi Ikematsu on double bass, and resident ensemble, the
New Zealand String Quartet.
Musical directors
Gillian Ansell and Helene Pohl said this stellar start is
just the beginning of a programme that features 40 musicians
performing in 30 events.
“The Adam Festival has
come such a long way since it started with a group of
friends back in 1992,” they said. “We are thrilled with
the line-up for next year, and particularly pleased to have
secured one of Britain’s most eminent concert recitalists,
Martin Roscoe. His concerts at the Nelson School of Music
and at the Brancott Winery in Blenheim celebrating Liszt’s
200th birthday will truly be outstanding.”
The
biennial festival has made Nelson a summer Mecca for chamber
music lovers, with concerts in heritage churches, vineyards,
the acoustically excellent School of Music auditorium and
the wonderfully atmospheric Cathedral.
Minister for
Arts Culture and Heritage, Chris Finlayson, who coined the
term ‘Salzburg of the South’ says it is no wonder people
travel great distances for the Adam
Festival.
“What better setting can there be than
Nelson in summer to enjoy world-class chamber music, works
familiar and new and the collaborative atmosphere among
performers and local musicians.”
