Church Donates Further $30,000 To Quake Fund

The Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand will be giving a further $30,000 to those suffering from the effects of the Christchurch quake, taking its donation to $67,000.

On Sunday 3 October an offering for earthquake relief taken up during Church's General Assembly held in Christchurch totaled approximately $5,000, a further $25,000 donation will be added to this by the Church's Christchurch Presbytery - $5,000 from national fundraising and $20,000 gifted by the Presbyterian Savings and Development Society (PSDS). The $30,000 donation joins the approximately $37,000 donated to the Presbyterian Church by Korea's two largest Presbyterian churches, The Presbyterian Church of the Republic of Korea (PROK) and the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK).

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, the Right Rev Peter Cheyne, says the Church is grateful to the organisations and individuals who have given so generously to help those most effected by the quake.

The Rev Martin Stewart, Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery, says Christchurch Presbyterian churches are reaching out to support and help their communities in what is proving to be a very difficult time.

"We are neighbours helping neighbours and we will do what we can to ensure that these generous donations are given to the people in the city most in need."
