Breakers fans witnessed a white wash in last night’s demolition of the Gold Coast Blaze. In addition to the 100-79 scoreboard, the large crowd saw the Burger King Breakers at home in their traditional white away playing strip, with The Blaze agreeing to play in their blue strip. The white uniforms also carried white ribbons to acknowledge the club’s support of the white ribbon campaign.

“This club is a family and we want everybody connected with us to be safe and free from violence,” says General Manager Richard Clarke. “That’s why we support the It’s not OK! campaign and wear our white ribbons with pride. It’s important to us that men stand up to say they don’t commit, condone or remain silent about violence towards women or family violence in general. Having our fans also stand up is something we encourage.”

The Super Maori Fullas and Patriots Defence Force Motorcycle Club were some of the volunteers handing out white ribbons. Throughout the week hundreds of riders have visited over 40 community white ribbon events throughout the country. The motorcycle enthusiasts now head to the Bream Bay White Ribbon Ride.

Roger Rawiri of the Super Maori Fullas says, “We carry a message of love and respect. Hearing that message from big, leather wearing guys on loud bikes surprises many people – but they get it. Men are no longer opting out, they see themselves as part of the solution to family violence. We wanted to support The Breakers, because the more of us that stand up, the more people will talk about family violence and take action.”
