Pike River Coal On Future
Media statement from Pike River Coal Limited CEO Peter Whittall
Following today’s announcement from the police, Pike River Coal Limited CEO Peter Whittall says, “ The company will do all it can, right down to the last dollar, to reopen the mine and recover our men.
“We know that the families are having to come to terms with this evening’s decision of the Police and Department of Labour.
“This is a hard time for everyone, particularly the families of our men.”
Prior to the police announcement this afternoon, Pike River put to staff a proposed change of company structure which will include a significant reduction in staff numbers. The exact numbers and positions are yet to be determined and further meetings are scheduled for next week.
“We will do everything we can for Pike River families through our family support team,” says Peter Whittall.
