2010 International Water Polo Schools Series
Australia and South Africa to compete against New Zealand in the 2010 International Water Polo Schools Series
National School Boys and Girls teams representing Australia and South Africa are to compete against the New Zealand representative teams this weekend in Auckland at the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health.
This event is an extension of the Trans Tasman Series run annually between New Zealand and Australia Secondary School National Representative teams with the venue alternating between Australia and New Zealand. Currently the Australian teams hold the shields for both the boys and girls series. South Africa last attended the competition in New Zealand four years ago.
The Australian School Girls team has just spent two weeks training in Manchester, England, and will prove to be tough opposition in this year’s series. Sharon Geary, New Zealand Water Polo Womens Convener says “It is good to welcome South Africa back to this competition and although the Aussies have had a good build up we are confident that we can regain the Trans Tasman Shield”.
The Trans Tasman Series between New Zealand
and Australia has been contested since 1984 and prior to
that the two countries competed regularly at the Secondary
School level. The boy’s team last won in 2008 and the
girl’s in 2007.
