Stars align at Queenstown’s Millbrook Resort

Queenstown’s luxury Millbrook Resort hosted 27 of the world’s top airlines this week (12-14 December) for the first Star Alliance Annual Conference to be held in New Zealand.

During the conference Star Alliance Chief Executive Jaan Albrecht was joined by 125 delegates and partners from around the world, hosted by aviation heavyweights Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe and Deputy CEO Norm Thompson. New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, All Blacks Team Captain Richie McCaw, and 24 international media also flew into Queenstown.

Millbrook General Manager David Onions said the conference was a tremendous opportunity for the whole Millbrook team to showcase the very best of New Zealand hospitality.

“I’d like to thank Air New Zealand for allowing us to showcase Millbrook, a quality resort for conference and incentive groups,” he said.

“We’re fully accustomed to delivering memorable functions for high-status corporate events, so for this group we simply had to fine tune our delivery, and welcoming the 2010 Star Alliance Annual Conference to Millbrook has been an absolute honour.

“Logistically it may have been far easier for Air New Zealand to host the conference in Auckland, but as Queenstown is the 'jewel in the crown' of the country’s tourism industry, it was the obvious choice to showcase New Zealand.

“Millbrook and Queenstown is perfectly placed to deliver on the beauty and friendliness of our country and people, with our wide array of activities and experiences right on its doorstep.”

Air New Zealand’s Norm Thompson said:
“Millbrook Resort provided Air New Zealand with the perfect platform for showcasing the best that New Zealand, and the Queenstown region, has to offer. Our Star Alliance friends were enraptured by the venue and also by the people who looked after them for the duration of the Conference.”

Welcome drinks and degustation dinner featuring the best of local cuisine and wines was held at the Millbrook Clubhouse to welcome Star Alliance CEO’s and their partners.

Alongside two days of Chief Executive and Alliance management board meetings, delegates and partners enjoyed several activities in the region.
