Lightfoot ready for southern challenge

Auckland’s Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot has had his Christmas break and is ready to tackle the world’s southern-most race track when round three of the ENZED NZV8 Ute Series hits Teretonga near Invercargill this weekend.

Lightfoot will be making his Teretonga debut this weekend and is looking forward to the unique challenges that the circuit offers, which include the fast sweeper that makes up turn one.

Currently holding fifth position after two rounds, Lightfoot is looking for a strong run to add to his points tally and chase down the 31 point gap to fourth place. After a tough opening round, Lightfoot took his third career podium finish in the V8 Utes at Ruapuna, pushing him up the leaderboard.

Lightfoot will get his first look at the track in testing on Friday. The serious competition starts on Saturday with qualifying, which in a system unique to V8 Utes, pays points rather than determining grids. Also on Saturday, Race one grids are determined by a marble draw which is reversed for race two on Sunday morning. The third and final race sees grids determined from race one and two results.

Since the second round at Ruapuna, the BSL Racing #96 Ford Falcon has had a thorough check-over and is in top condition to tackle Teretonga, followed a week later by the fourth round of the series at Levels raceway near Timaru.

Over the New Years break, Lightfoot has set up his own fan page on facebook. On the Mike Buzz Lightfoot page, people can keep up to date with the latest news from the team.

Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot would like to thank his sponsors that have made his 2010/11 NZ V8 Ute series campaign possible: BSL Racing, Volvo Penta, Elf Lubricants, DHL Global Forwarding, Fleetline Spraypainters and Precision components.
