The highest grossing New Zealand film of all time, Boy was followed by The Hurt Locker and Avatar.

“We’re thrilled to see a great Kiwi flick like Boy take out the top spot for 2010,” says Rob Berman, General Manager of Fatso. “It just goes to show that Kiwis love New Zealand made and it bodes well for the local production industry.”

Alongside Taika Waititi’s feature film, popular New Zealand titles included The Vintner’s Luck and The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls.

Among television titles, the Ryan Kwanten vampire series True Blood took out the top two positions followed by musical Glee.

Fatso’s 2010 rentals showed comedy to be New Zealand’s favourite genre, accounting for over 18% of all discs sent. Drama followed at almost 14% while genres Romance and Cult came in right at the bottom at just 0.1% of all discs sent.

Statistics show the increasing popularity of Blu-ray also with 72% more Fatso members renting Blu-ray DVDs in 2010 compared to 2009.
