Coaching Consultant Appointment

Lyn Gunson has been appointed as High Performance Coaching Consultant at the NZ Academy of Sport North Island (NZASNI).

She joins a focused team of Coaching Consultants working strategically with National Sport Organisations to create a world leading high performance coaching environment, led by High Performance Coaching Manager, Paul Smith.

A former Silver Ferns captain and coach, Lyn has been involved in high performance sport as an athlete, coach, administrator and manager since 1972.

Most recently as Director of Netball at Netball North Harbour, she was responsible for the Coach Force coach development, regional leadership and high performance programmes.

As part of the Silver Ferns programme, Lyn supported the coaches and team achieve a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Lyn spent a decade in the UK working in several capacities within high performance sport, including working daily with coaches as part of an international coach development programme across 15 sports.

She coached the England Netball Team at the 2003 Commonwealth Games and 2004 World Championships and coached TeamBath, the leading team in the national England competition.

She has also worked as a lecturer at the Department of Leisure Studies, University of Waikato and was Director of the Waikato Institute of Leisure and Sport Studies.

“We are delighted to have Lyn join our team working with NSO’s and one-on-one with high performance coaches. Lyn’s experience in New Zealand, the UK, Africa, the Pacific and the Caribbean is internationally recognised,” NZASNI CEO Pete Pfitzinger, said.

“Throughout her career, Lyn has been actively involved in creating and implementing change in high performance sport. Her broad experience in NZ and internationally make her ideally suited to this new position,” Pfitzinger concluded.
