Sir Ed’s home receives house-warming gift

Our future leaders will soon be enjoying the gift of a dry and healthy classroom thanks to their new HRV ventilation and heating solution.

The system, which combines the HRV home ventilation unit with SolaMate panels, was donated by HRV to Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate where Sir Edmund Hillary’s home was relocated this week and will serve as a leadership centre for the school and wider community. HRV’s installation company NRG will also donate their time free of charge to get the job done.

“We are thrilled about being able to support Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate. With large numbers of people expected to move through the Hillary house, making sure the building is properly ventilated is highly important,” says Iain Hosie, Media Relations Manager for HRV.

The house, which was built by Sir Edmund and Lady Louise Hillary in 1956 where he lived until his death in 2008, will benefit immensely from the ventilation solution as many homes of its era have a tendency to become cold and damp, particularly during New Zealand’s wet winter months.

Gail Thomson, Commissioner for Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate is grateful for the generous donation.

“We are delighted to have the support of HRV for this project. Just like Sir Ed, we hope the young people who will attend our programmes will be inspired under this roof. We have been fundraising to cover the cost of the house removal so the support from companies such as HRV is vital to the project,” says Thomson.

The house was moved back on site this week with a Powhiri which was attended by Sir Edmund Hillary’s family including son Peter who addressed the crowd.

The Sir Edmund Hillary Leadership Centre will be officially opened around May 29 which marks the 68th anniversary of his historic summit of Mt Everest.
