An evening parents shouldn’t miss
An evening parents shouldn’t miss
Nathan Makaere-Wallis is coming to Tauranga on Wednesday 23 February to inform parents about the latest in Brain Research and Learning - what we all need to know. He specialises in neuro-scientific research.
Nathan is a lecturer at Canterbury University’s College of Education, presenter for Brainwave, and a trainer in Child Protection Studies. Nathan is a father of three and a step-father of another three, all aged from 11-22 years. Nathan’s background is in teaching and child counseling.
We learnt more about the
brain in the 90’s than all of our collective knowledge
prior to this, due to the advances in technology. The
findings contradict a lot of the practices parents and
teachers have used for the last 100 years and continue to
think are aiding the child. There is now a large gap
between how people ‘think’ the brain works and how
research shows it to actually be! An understanding of this
research can help to parents and teachers meet the
developmental needs of children and adolescents. Nathan’s
presentation will explore how the brain works and how
neuroscience can inform our day to day interactions with
young people.
Nathan is an engaging and informative
speaker and he will be speaking at the Performing Arts
Centre, Bethlehem College at 7pm on 23
February.
