Media Statement

Penrose Fire

Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, MP for Maungakiekie, has expressed concern for the Penrose business that was seriously damaged by an extensive blaze last night.

Fire fighters were called out to Select Auto Parts in Neilson Street just before 9 pm last night following reports of fire by local residents.

“I commend members of the public for their vigilance and the 60 plus fire fighters who did a great job battling the massive blaze”, says Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga.

Fire safety officers will begin their investigation into the suspicious blaze today.

“I am alarmed that this is the second fire in suspicious circumstances to hit the area in less than a year. It’s a tough time for a business with the added pressure of watching their livelihood go up in smoke.

“ I look forward to the outcome of the investigation and finding those responsible if the fire proves to be arson”, says Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga.
