New Zealand Law Society co-ordinates legal assistance
The New Zealand Law Society is co-ordinating offers of assistance from the New Zealand legal profession for people affected by the Christchurch earthquake.
Law Society President Jonathan Temm today communicated with all New Zealand lawyers to advise them that lawyers throughout the country were offering their assistance, and that the Law Society was establishing a service to provide contact points for anyone in Christchurch who might need immediate legal assistance and also for Christchurch lawyers and their families.
Mr Temm said the Law Society had set up a special earthquake response committee and would co-ordinate lawyers who volunteered to provide first port-of-call advice and assistance to anyone in Christchurch with an urgent legal matter. Lawyers around the country were also offering office space and support resources to Christchurch lawyers.
