Kaitangata Hillclimb Postponed
The 2011 Kaitangata Bob Scott Memorial Hillclimb scheduled to be held this Saturday at Whites Road, City Forests in Kaitangata has been postponed until Saturday 14 May.
In a joint decision event organisers Kaitangata Black Gold Community Inc, the Scott family and the Eastern Southland Car Club have postponed the event due to the circumstances surrounding the tragedy that the Christchurch earthquake has brought.
"The tragedy in Christchurch has impacted on so many peoples lives and resources," said Jean Proctor of the Kaitangata Black Gold Community Inc. "Items such as port-a-loos that are required in Christchurch are in short supply while St Johns Ambulance could also have been stretched to provide the essentials for the event. Not wishing to add to the challenges currently being faced by people, we feel postponement was the only thing to do."
Roger Laird of the Eastern Southland Car Club said postponing the event also showed a mark of respect for the victims of the Christchurch tragedy.
