Website has details for Lower Hutt residents wanting to help
Lower Hutt residents looking to help those affected by Christchurch’s devastating earthquake can find all the information they need on Hutt City Council’s website, www.huttcity.govt.nz/christchurch.
Details on how to make monetary donations and accommodation offers are listed, as well as advice for those wanting to volunteer or donate goods.
Information on Lower Hutt’s contribution to the Christchurch rescue effort is also detailed on the site.
Mayor Ray Wallace says he has been heartened by the number of Lower Hutt residents wanting to support the people of Canterbury.
“Council’s call centre has received many calls from people wanting to assist those affected by this devastating tragedy and it makes me very proud of the people of Lower Hutt who have shown such an out pouring of goodwill.
“Our advice from the National Crisis Management Centre in Wellington is the best way for people to help is to give monetary donations as this is the easiest way to help organisations on the ground get exactly what they need.
“We have posted on our website details of how people can make these donations and I know the people of Lower Hutt will rally to contribute.”
