Nominations for Young Community Leaders Awards 2011 Now Open
Not-for-profit and voluntary organizations in the Greater Wellington region are urged to put forward nominations for the Young Community Leaders Awards 2011.
The awards were initiated in 2005 by the Wellington Community Trust to recognise and reward outstanding young people actively volunteering in leadership roles.
Five winners will each receive $1,000 in recognition of their contributions to their respective communities.
Frances Russell, Executive Director of Wellington Community Trust, said ‘We are very proud of these awards and the people who are nominated for them. This is just one way of giving back to young, community minded individuals working in our communities.
‘Normally there are a tremendous number of nominations and we hope for the same this year.’
Ms Russell went on to say that occasionally some individuals were nominated by more than one organization, indicating a very high level of commitment.
‘It is imperative that we recognize their
efforts now so that they continue to flourish and move on to
bigger and brighter endeavours. You never know, you may have
a
budding world leader in your midst.’
The Young Community Leaders awards are biennial and the Wellington Community Trust has been delighted with the calibre of young people that have been nominated for the previous awards in 2005, 2007 and 2009.
The awards will be presented at a special ceremony hosted by His Excellency The Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, Governor-General of New Zealand.
Nominations close on 31 March 2011.
