Kiwis Called to Walk2work

Ditch the car, bypass the bus and shunt the train. Ziera is encouraging New Zealanders to get on their feet and ‘Walk2Work’.

Ziera (formally Kumfs) is supporting Living Streets Aotearoa to coordinate ‘Walk2Work’ events with the aim of incorporating exercise into the daily routine of Kiwi commuters.

Free Walk2Work events are being held across the country on the morning of March 16 2011.

Many commuters are put off walking to their workplace because of the perils of wearing their uncomfortable dress shoes, or the dreaded sneaker and suit combination.

Now the shoe is on the other foot with Ziera working to ensure people can easily walk to work wearing good looking shoes with no pain endured nor the revelation of odd socks at work.

Foot Mechanics Podiatry podiatrist Mike Wu says wearing well-fitting footwear on the walk to work can have many significant health benefits to not just for the heart and the mind but also to the feet.

“We all know properly fitted shoes can help reduce discomfort in feet. However, they can also potentially prevent many common foot problems such as ingrown toenail, corns, callous, bunion, or any other musculoskeletal injuries.

“Even better, in some cases fitted shoes can also help with your knee or lower back pain making your walk a more comfortable and enjoyable one,” says Mike.

“Healthy and pain-free feet also mean you will be able to walk longer without having to stop and you will get the most out of your walk,” he says.

Ziera shoe designer Robin Boyce says Ziera styles use a combination of materials such as shock-absorbing Poron rubber and ‘soft-solid’ gel to ensure feet are supported.

“The result is comfortable footwear that remains fashionably commercial – a rarity in a day where the only footwear options we seem to be faced with are sky-high stilettos or uncomfortable flimsy flats,” she says.

Andy Smith of Living Streets Aotearoa says walking to work is something people of all ages and fitness levels can do.

“It’s a great reason to get outside and enjoy the journey whilst benefiting from fresh air and exercise. We are delighted to have the support of Ziera at the events - and on our feet,” he says.

Ziera puts an emphasis on the health of feet and is Australasia’s most recommended footwear brand by podiatrists and other medical professionals.

Ziera staff will be present at events to hand out Ziera discount vouchers to participants and there will be an opportunity to win a pair of new season shoes.
