Well-known commentator comes to NZ

World renowned and respected media commentator on religious, social and political matters, Dr Tony Campolo, is speaking around New Zealand on behalf of TEAR Fund.

TEAR Fund events manager Sarah Jamieson said that Campolo was an inspirational speaker and one who was bound to have a timely message for New Zealanders, especially the Christian community. “His messages are challenging but they are delivered in a way that inspires people to action, especially on behalf of the poor and disadvantaged in the world.” He has a real heart for the poor and spent time in Haiti following the devastating earthquake last year, said Ms Jamieson.

Campolo is an author of 38 books and has appeared on some of America’s top news and current affairs shows, such as Larry King Live, CNN Dayside, CNN News and The Colbert Report. Campolo is known for being outspoken and challenging and was a spiritual advisor to former US President Bill Clinton, while he was in office.

Tony Campolo is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Eastern University in St. David’s, Pennsylvania. He is an ordained minister, and an associate pastor of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in West Philadelphia.

Tui Award nominated artists, Shooting Stars, will support Dr Campolo. Since 2003, Shooting Stars have inspired a passionate following and are regular guests at Parachute music festival.
