The Roxx Helps Kids Climb Above Their Circumstances
The Roxx Climbing Centre is working with Big Brothers Big Sisters to change the lives of young Cantabrians
11 April 2011. Christchurch. –
Amidst earthquake recovery, local climbing centre The Roxx,
which incorporates Clip ‘N Climb, is supporting
Christchurch mentoring organisation Big Brothers Big Sisters
(BBBS).
“Many companies are showing generosity at this
time, but what stands out about The Roxx is their
willingness to not just give but to get involved,“ says
BBBS Manager Matthew Button.
As well as providing a free event to BBBS, its mentors and the children they work with, The Roxx is also providing mentors of its own for its local primary school, Waltham Primary.
A function for BBBS mentors and their mentees is being held on Tuesday 12 April at the Waltham-based facility.
“The exciting aspect of their partnership is that climbing is so great for the kids we mentor, a positive and healthy activity that helps them challenge themselves physically, mentally and emotionally.
“It’s something many of these kids would miss out on otherwise.”
Craig Ogilvie, Operations Manager at The Roxx, says working with BBBS was a good fit. “We have a history of community involvement, which is part of our business ethos.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to make real connections with kids at our local school, to complement the other programmes we run into the Canterbury community”.
“BBBS is a great programme that our staff are very enthusiastic about”.
“From a commercial point of view, the partnership also gives us an opportunity to showcase what we can offer to children and mentors, so they know the unique kind of experience we can offer for birthday parties and after school climbing programmes.”
Mr Ogilvie said The Roxx came through the earthquake relatively unscathed and was back and fully operational.
