Wine + Food = Love
21 April, 2011 -- Silverstream, Wellington - It came as no surprise that when the Silverspoon restaurant announced a food and wine pairing night entitled "Wine + Food = Love," that pre-sales of tickets went quickly. Winners of a 2007 Corban's Perfect Match award, the Silverspoon found success again with their first event since changing hands, drawing 40 people to taste an exclusive menu of canapes, a choice of 2 entrees, 2 mains, and 2 desserts crafted by head chef Alex Wilson, each expertly paired by "The Wine Guru" Malcolm Macintyre.
The event was the first at the Silverspoon since new owners Josh and Katie Chapman took over the restaurant in late December, and are looking to make a trend of these events. "We were pleased with how positive the response was with the local community of Silverstream, and are certainly looking forward to doing more events in the future," Josh said. "The extensive knowledge used to prepare the menu, along with our trademark service, made for a great night."
The night featured brief introductions of the staff, dishes, and wines by Josh Chapman and Malcolm, and included local music talent Renee Coffey providing entertainment. Head Chef Alex Wilson, who has been at the Silverspoon for 3 years, collaborated with wine connoisseur Malcolm of winesale.co.nz to concoct the menu for the night. The menu included some of the restaurant's famous dishes, such as the the signature bacon-wrapped scallops, lovat venison, and creme brulee. The hand-picked wines included the Georges Michel Golden Mile Marlborough Chardonnay, the Hopkiln Single Vineyard Nelson Pinot Gris, and the Mebus Estate Young Vines Pinot Noir.
The Silverspoon has been serving the Silverstream community for over 10 years (previously Cafe Suburbium) and has an outstanding reputation of serving great coffee and meals during the day as a cafe, and transforming into a charming fine dining experience with exquisite meals delivered with top-notch service at nights. It is located in the heart of the Hutt Valley in Silverstream.
