Volunteer Christchurch plumbing and drainlaying service ends after helping more than 250 families
Letsfixit.org.nz, a volunteer plumbing and drainlaying service for residents affected by the Christchurch earthquake, has come to an end after helping over 250 homeowners.
The initiative saw over 90 plumbers and drainlayers volunteer to assist in Christchurch and many hours of time, skills and equipment were donated to repair water and sewage damage throughout Christchurch.
“Letsfixit’s single-minded aim was to provide immediate humanitarian relief to as many homes as possible for those who could not afford services or assistance,” said Jay Wester, managing director of heating and plumbing supplier LEAP, founder of the Let’s Fix It website and registered trust.
“We believe we've succeeded in that aim and it's now time to wind the programme down and let the reconstruction work begin.”
Volunteering offers from Australia and Norfolk Islands were received, as well as many from throughout New Zealand.
Sven Baker, Designworks CEO, who teamed up with its client LEAP, said “Letsfixit.org.nz is an example of how Kiwis can band together and help each other out in a time of need. There is a wonderful sense of community that has shone through with letsfixit.org.nz and we’re proud to have been able to help Christchurch out in some way.”
