Meridian Kids Bike Jam - Christchurch
Meridian Kids Bike Jam - Christchurch
The Meridian Kids Bike Jam is going ahead in Christchurch this year, at McLeans Island mountain-bike park on May 29.
It was originally planned to take place earlier in the year, but due to the earthquake was postponed.
The organizers, the
Christchurch Police Blue light, have worked very hard to
ensure that it goes ahead, despite having to deal with other
priorities.
Last year Tai Tapu School in Selwyn district
had the largest number of pupils taking part, and this year
similar numbers are expected.
With three courses and a skills area, kids of all ages can participate in a fun-filled off road bike event and receive a medal, water bottle along with a whole load of goodies just for taking part.
This year the bike jam is celebrating its tenth birthday, and kids will also get a special anniversary medal.
Although mainly for ages between five and 13, children of other ages can also take part.
“All kids need is attitude, energy, a two wheeler and a helmet,” says organizer Jill Ford.
McLeans Forest is part of the Waimakariri River Regional Park, and the single loop track is fast, flat and fun.
The Meridian Kids' Bike Jams are the largest mountain bike series for young people in Australasia, with the events taking place in seven centres in New Zealand.
