Main outfall pipeline repair
Hutt City Council is carrying out repairs to a failed joint in the main outfall pipeline at Muritai Road, just north of Rimu Street, in Eastbourne.
This pipeline runs from the Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Pencarrow Head outfall. It is a vital component of the Hutt Valley and Wainuiomata wastewater system as all treated wastewater is pumped through this pipe.
The repair work will include draining the pipe through scour valves at Sunshine Bay, Windy Point and Camp Bay, and entering the pipe to place internal seals at the leaking joint. This will require diverting treated effluent from the Seaview plant to the overflow pipe in the lower Waiwhetu Stream for about four days while the repair work is undertaken.
