Fund to support Rugby World Cup 2011-themed events and activities
Hutt City Council has established a community fund to help local community groups get into the Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011) spirit.
$50,000 is available to help groups, organisations and clubs needing financial support to deliver rugby-themed events and activities during RWC 2011.
Mayor Ray Wallace says applications for funding are welcome from those with plans to engage the community, promote Lower Hutt as a visitor destination and “of course, celebrate rugby”.
“New Zealand will be in party-mode during RWC 2011 and we want to ensure our local communities have the opportunity to be involved,” he says.
Community events will complement Council’s plans to dress the town with RWC 2011 street flags and introduce a special rugby theme to this year’s Petone Carnival.
“I am looking forward to Lower Hutt being part of the RWC 2011 celebration and I hope community groups will take this opportunity to be involved.
“With two rugby teams, Tonga and Scotland, training at the Hutt Rec during the tournament we might even see some Tongan or Scottish-themed community events.”
Funding criteria and application forms are available from Hutt City Council’s building on Laings Road, or from our website at wwwhuttcity.govt.nz.
Applications close on Thursday 30 June.
