Protest group happy with Airport backdown
‘Protest Wellington International Airport: NO WELLYWOOD SIGN!’ is cancelling the driving protest that had been planned for tonight, following Wellington International Airport Limited’s announcement that it would now consider alternatives to the Wellywood sign, coordinator Andy Boreham said today.
“We were delighted to learn Wellington International Airport has finally heard the voice of the overwhelming majority of people in Wellington,” Mr Boreham said.
“We are grateful the Airport has had the courage to back down and as a result, our protest that had been planned for tonight will not now happen.” The group had planned to repeat its driving protest of last Monday.
“It’s excellent to see that the community will now be brought into the process and I’m excited to see what they come up with. I’m sure it will be something that all Wellingtonians can be proud of!”
