Westfield Riccarton Update
Westfield New Zealand confirms the Westfield Riccarton shopping centre has remained closed for the rest of the trading day due to the aftershocks that took place today.
We evacuated the shopping centre after the first significant aftershock occurred. Our decision to keep the centre closed for the balance of the day is a prudent one given the severity of the continued aftershocks. We anticipate reopening the shopping centre for trade tomorrow morning,” said Mr Justin Lynch, Director, Westfield New Zealand.
“The building has been designed to withstand such aftershocks and we are currently completing our standard structural and life safety checks . Our team at Riccarton remains resilient and we have a team in place to assist in getting the centre back to business as it remains a strong community hub.
“We are pleased to advise we have had no reports of injuries,” said Mr Lynch.
