Rural Women New Zealand organizes feeding frenzy for Farmy Army
As the Farmy Army and Student Volunteer Army regroup to begin the liquefaction clean up in Christchurch this weekend, Rural Women New Zealand (RWNZ) is also swinging into action to ensure no-one will be working on an empty stomach.
Rangiora member Helen Heddell is co-ordinating the catering team, who will be making mountains of high octane food to keep volunteers well-fuelled.
“We are also calling for help from the public,” says Kerry Maw, RWNZ’s National Councillor for Canterbury. “We desperately need baked goods such as fruit cakes and loaves, chocolate fudge, muffins, Anzac biscuits and health food bars, for instant pick-me-up energy."
People who wish to donate baking can drop off items at the PGG Wrightson merchandise building in Blenheim Road, Christchurch.
Rural Women New Zealand is well versed in what is required, having prepared thousands of meals for the Farmy Army during the Christchurch earthquake clean up in March.
The catering team will be based at the Canterbury Showgrounds from tomorrow morning, and will feed the Farmy Army over the coming week.
