NZ ethnic communities book republished
Many requests have led to a new and expanded edition of the ethnic communities handbook New to New Zealand [5th ed.].
The first edition, edited by Hamilton City Councillor Daphne Bell, was published in 1998. Three more editions followed which have been widely used around the country by schools, health professionals, government organisations and social services.
The present edition was edited by Waikato-based diversity coach, Jenny Magee and is published by the Hamilton based Ethnic New Zealand Trust. Trustee Daphne Bell says the new edition, of more than 140 pages, now covers the geography, history, language, religion and culture of 44 different nationalities. “It will help communities and professionals gain a better understanding of those who have come to make their homes in this country. It covers both refugee and migrant peoples, and aims to promote awareness and understanding of our new neighbours.”
New to New Zealand has been endorsed by the Human Rights Commission and a number of professional organisations. Published in Hamilton by Print House, it retails for $34.95, and is available from EthnicNZTrust@gmail.com or TheBestLittleBookStore.co.nz
