Locals urged to share views on community halls
ROTORUA 25.07.11: Rotorua District Council is
seeking guidance on the future of Rotorua district’s nine
community halls from the local communities that use
them.
Residents are being encouraged to let Rotorua
District Council (RDC) know how important their community
halls are to them and how they are best utilised at a series
of community meetings being held around the district next
month.
The council-managed community halls are located
at Broadlands, Kaharoa, Mamaku, Ngakuru, Ngongotaha,
Okareka, Reporoa, Rerewhakaaitu and Waikite.
RDC
Community Policy & Resources manager Ann Esler says the
council is seeking input from communities, including schools
and other regular users of the halls, around what RDC
provides for the halls.
“These halls are a focal
point for social events, sports and other activities
undertaken by people in rural communities, and the council
is responsible for the buildings’ safety, exterior
maintenance, and other costs.
“The various meetings
are an opportunity for rural residents to let the council
know what they want for the future of their community
halls.”
Information gathered from people attending
the meetings will be presented in a report to the
council’s Corporate & Customer Services Committee in
mid-September.
Meetings to get community feedback
will take approximately two hours and will be held at:
- Reporoa Community Hall, Monday 1 August at 7pm;
- Broadlands Hall, Tuesday 2 August at 7pm;
- Kaharoa Hall, Wednesday 3 August at 7.30pm;
- Ngongotaha Community Hall, Thursday 4 August at 5.30pm;
- Ngakuru Hall, Monday 8 August at 7pm;
- Mamaku Hall, Tuesday 9 August at 7pm;
- Lake Okareka Hall, Wednesday 10 August at 7pm;
- Waikite Hall, Thursday 11 August at 7pm; and
- Rerewhakaaitu Settlers Hall, Monday 15 August at 7pm.
