Taupo Winners Celebrate with ‘Most Expensive’ Lunch
A Taupo family is this week celebrating their $500,000 win with Lotto First Division. Their winning ticket was sold at Countdown Taupo for the 13 August draw.
The winning father, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a regular Lotto player, and buys their weekly ticket with their usual grocery purchases. They found out they had bought a big winning ticket when his partner checked, and then triple checked, their numbers online on Monday morning.
“We decided to celebrate the win, so booked for lunch at the Hilton Hotel in Taupo. It was fabulous but was our most expensive lunch, ever!”
The family plan to use their winnings to pay off mortgage debt and are thinking about building a new house in the future.
“We are also planning something very special. As we have parents living overseas who have never seen their kiwi grandchildren, we have just booked airline tickets to surprise them with a visit.
“I can’t wait to see the look on their faces when they hug their grandchildren for the first time,” the winner said.
Meanwhile, Powerball First Division has jackpotted this week and will be worth an estimated life-changing $23 million this Saturday.
