Coopers Creek Awarded Five Gold Medals

22 August 2011

Coopers Creek Awarded Five Gold Medals at NZ International Wine Show

Five Gold Medals from New Zealand’s most competitive wine awards is a major endorsement for family winery Coopers Creek - especially as three of them are for their top value Classics range that retails for under $20 a bottle!

With over 2,000 entries from around the world the New Zealand International Wine Show is a truly demanding stage for wines looking to shine. Coopers Creek Vineyards exceeded the expectations of even its most loyal fans with a bag of five Gold Medals in the 2011 competition. Better still, three of those Gold Medals went to wines that retail for well under $20 a bottle!

Coopers Creek Classics Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010, Gisborne Gewürztraminer 2010 and Gisborne Viognier 2010 were all judged as Gold Medal standard: in many cases against wines that sell for twice the price! The Viognier was one of only four golds; the Gewürztraminer one of only five. Finding wines that are affordable, available and carry a Gold Medal is unusual, but wine lovers have at least three good reasons to smile this week.

In addition to the Classics wines, the Reserve Hawkes Bay Syrah 2010 and Select Vineyards Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 were also awarded Gold Medals. Coopers Creek collected six Silver and ten Bronze Medals to complete a very impressive haul for a small producer.

Managing Director Andrew Hendry comments, “Our Classics range of wines are made for everyday enjoyment, they’re not show ponies. But we try hard with all our wines to craft something rewarding and unique. The awards are welcome recognition for the hard work put in by all our team – in the winery and in the vineyards.”
