Lower Hutt in party-mode for Tongan rugby team
Hutt Recreation Ground was a sea of red and white this morning as Tongan supporters turned out on mass to watch the Tongan rugby team train.
Mayor Ray Wallace says the crowd of about 4,000 was “incredible” and a great example of Lower Hutt’s community spirit.
“People from all across the city have come along to support the Tongan team, including groups of local school children decked out in red and white face paint. The support from the local Tongan community was just great.
“Our community has shown we are fully supporting Rugby World Cup 2011 here in Lower Hutt.”
