Action Youth and Drugs teams get results
Success stories and new ideas for tackling illegal drug use by youth across New Zealand are being shared at the annual Community Action Youth and Drugs (CAYAD) Hui being held at Pakanae Marae in Opononi today and tomorrow.
Hokianga CAYAD manager John Wigglesworth says that the Hokianga team are thrilled to be hosting the national hui.
“Use of illegal drugs is prevalent in our community and many others across Nz Our CAYAD works with local schools, sports clubs, iwi and community groups to build a culture of aspiration and education, free from drugs. The national hui is a great opportunity to share our success stories and learn from each other to fight alcohol abuse and illegal drug use.”
Bev Thomas from Gisborne CAYAD is presenting today on the success that her CAYAD has working with local iwi and marae to develop drug and alcohol free marae policies.
“We have had great success working with local marae as well as local sports clubs to work towards a drug and alcohol free culture and policies. Our CAYAD, based at Turanga Health has taken a comprehensive approach to addressing the problem of drug and alcohol abuse in our communities by mobilising whanau to make positive change in their community.
