Christchurch gets behind Ronald McDonald House South Island

The tables are set, the menus are being finalised, and the excitement is building as Christchurch prepares to host an evening of simultaneous dinner parties in the name of charity.

Ronald McDonald House South Island is holding its exclusive fundraising gala event, Supper Club @ Home, tomorrow night (Friday, October 7).

The evening will see 23 of the city’s most beautiful homes and unique venues open their doors to a table of eight mystery guests, whilst a notable chef has full reign in the kitchen cooking a three-course meal.

Participating guests will not know where they are dining, or who is cooking for them, until it is revealed during a pre-dinner cocktail function at the Christchurch Casino.

All proceeds go directly to Ronald McDonald House South Island – a facility that provides accommodation and support to families with children in need of hospital care in Christchurch. Families are never charged for their stay.

Venues include the historically elegant Kate Sheppard estate in Fendalton, Hackthorne Garden’s grand house overlooking the city from its vantage point in Cashmere, MP Nicky Wagner’s stunning central city home, and The Worcester of Christchurch – an iconic and beautifully preserved heritage-listed residence.

A number of the homes have also been designed by award-winning architects, including Ian Athfield, Kerry Mason and DD Architects.

Renowned Canterbury chefs, such as the likes of Tony Smith from the Crowne Plaza, Jax Hamilton of MasterChef fame, Andrew Brown from The George and Christchurch Casino’s Richard Hingston, are generously donating their time and resources to the event.

Ronald McDonald House South Island’s general manager Emma Jones said there had been a fantastic response, with only one table of eight left to sell.

“Due to guests having to pull out at the last minute there is one last table up for grabs, and we advise interested parties to contact us as soon as possible as it will not be around for long.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Christchurch is right behind the House, and we are extremely fortunate to have a number of the city’s most notable chefs on board, along with some absolutely beautiful homes and venues.”
