Car restraint event offers road safety fun during school holidays
ROTORUA 06.10.11: Parents and children are encouraged to get to the CBD next week to learn how to keep safe in and around vehicles as part of Restraint Focus Month.
Rotorua District Council (RDC), Rotorua Police, Treasure Rotorua, and Safekids Rotorua are hosting a community safety event at City Focus between 10.30 and 2.30pm on Wednesday 12 October.
Rotorua's road safety morepork Ruru hit billboards around the city this week promoting car restraint messages.
RDC road safety coordinator Jodie Lawson says the event is not only educational for parents and children but a fantastic boredom buster for the school holidays.
“There are lots of fun interactive things for the little ones to do while parents get safety advice on carseats and reversing in driveways.
“Kids can meet Ruru, make their very own paper bag Ruru puppet, and watch the popular Puppet Vision shows.”
Ms Lawson says there is also a chance to win a Britax carseat valued at $300 plus lots of other goodies to help make car rides entertaining.
“Anyone who speaks with our carseat technicians at the event can go into a draw to win this top-of-the-line carseat.”
The winner will be drawn that day and notified by the end of the week.
