Love Christchurch – A Seismic Selection Of Music From Christchurch

Proceeds to rebuild music facilities in Christchurch after the devastating earthquake of February 2011

The NZ Music Commission in association with Christchurch Music Industry Trust (CHART) and the REAL NZ Festival have compiled and produced Love Christchurch - a compilation of Canterbury artists to raise funds for building and operating a central rehearsal space for Christchurch.

The album would not have happened without the generous support of the artists involved. Love Christchurch features the exceptional talents of: Ladi6 – Salmonella Dub – The Eastern – The Unfaithful Ways – Cairo Knife Fight – Dukes – Lindon Puffin – Psych Tigers – Von Voin Strum – Von Klap – Lupus Lunar – The Bats – Delaney Davidson – T54 – Sleeping Dogs – The Easy Hearts – Hera – Switch Sanchez Nacoa feat. Sasha Vee – Mr Squatch

From Monday 10 October, you can purchase Love Christchurch from anywhere in the country – or the world – thanks to the good folk at www.amplifierco.nz as a physical CD or digital bundle. You can choose to make a donation of $10, $15 or $20 for your copy.

100% of the funds raised will be used to replace vital infrastructure destroyed in the Canterbury earthquakes. It is infrastructure that is needed so the cities musicians can get back to what they’re best at; playing and making music.

“Over the past year Christchurch has been hit by a series of devastating earthquakes starting 4th September 2010 and followed by a catastrophic aftershock on 22nd February 2011 which crippled the central city, causing multiple fatalities and destroying most of the CBD infrastructure.

The aftershocks still continue as we all try to put our lives back together and get used to the ‘new normal’ in Christchurch. There is a long road to recovery and massive rebuilding process ahead. While it’s a daily exercise to negotiate the uneven roads and see the hundreds of mangled houses throughout the hills and suburbs it is not so easy to see behind the scenes and understand the destruction that now exists throughout the once vibrant inner city with the loss of so many public spaces.

The music community and our local industry that has been hit particularly hard with live performance venues, clubs & pubs destroyed, equipment and gear trapped inside condemned buildings, recording studios and rehearsal spaces demolished. An important voice and vital form of expression, part of what makes Christchurch unique, is missing.

This “Love Christchurch” CD aims to give our unique voice a platform to showcase itself to the world during this massive festival of world sport with some of Christchurch’s most successful and new breaking acts committing their music to help raise much needed funds for a central live rehearsal ‘space’ in the city.

This will become a much needed hub for our artists to regroup, reinvigorate and help bring that voice back to the city with the heart, soul and passion that Cantabrians are so well known for. The same sort of passion that has made Canterbury one of the most successful rugby regions in the world…”

Neil Cox - CHART (The Christchurch Music Industry Trust) Chairman

The Love Christchurch compilation was made possible with funding from the NZ2011 Lottery Fund and the REAL NZ Festival and was compiled for the New Zealand Music Commission by Rodney Hewson, Jeff Fulton and the dedicated CHART team.

All proceeds raised will go to CHART, to inject the funds directly into infrastructure projects to benefit the local Christchurch music community
