Auckland Traffic - smoke testing at Victoria Park Tunnel
Traffic Advisory - smoke testing at Victoria Park Tunnel
The NZTA is advising motorists that they may encounter smoke on the Northern Motorway in St Mary’s Bay overnight on Wednesday 12 October.
The smoke will be produced by tests being conducted inside the Victoria Park Tunnel, as part of the tunnel commissioning, and drivers are asked not to contact emergency services.
The smoke is expected to dissipate quickly, without disruption to traffic on the motorway.
There are two purposes for the tests:
• to test smoke management systems in the
tunnel
• to commission the tunnel’s computer
hardware, for example the tunnel surveillance system and the
ventilation.
Two of the tunnel’s three lanes will open to northbound traffic on 7 November.
