PAK’nSAVE: Backing New Zealand by bringing back 1987 bargains

On Wednesday 19 October, PAK’nSAVE will be bringing back the low grocery prices of 1987 on a selection of goods for one day only, in anticipation of history repeating itself during the big final on Sunday.

The eighties was a time when Kiwis had much to celebrate. The first Lotto draw was held, Maori became an official language, but arguably the best was when the All Blacks claimed the Webb Ellis Trophy.

Steve Anderson, Managing Director Foodstuffs New Zealand, says that while plenty of things like big perms, acid-washed jeans, salmon and pastel home decor and telex machines deserve to stay in 1987, other things like the World Cup result and low food prices would be widely welcomed by Kiwis today.

“The opening of the first PAK’nSAVE in Kaitaia heralded the beginning of a supermarket revolution for New Zealand. Suddenly, there was the option to buy groceries at lower prices. In recognition of that great year, PAK’nSAVE has dug deep and for one day only, stores nationwide are offering customers the chance to buy a selection of grocery items at 1987 prices.

“We know times are tough out there, but we believe Kiwis will have something to celebrate this weekend - PAK’nSAVE wants to help make that celebration just a little bit easier.

“Regardless of whether its customers stocking up before the big game, or simply wanting to get a really great deal on everyday items, our stores are offering a range of products at prices you just haven’t seen since the eighties,” says Anderson.

Promotions will vary from store to store, but there will be a variety of products included in the promotion. For example, PAK’nSAVE South Island customers can expect to revisit childhood memories of enjoying cheap Shrewsbury biscuits, Minties, jet planes and pineapple lumps.

“As a country we achieved some great things in 1987, and at PAK’nSAVE we believe that by bringing back 1987 food prices, we are doing our bit to help New Zealand re-live one of the greatest sporting moments in our history. Go the All Blacks!” concludes Anderson.

For the full range of products available at 1987 prices, visit your local PAK’nSAVE store tomorrow.
