RWC 2011 Major Events Operations Centre Update
Customs St closed in downtown Auckland
Customs St in Auckland’s downtown has now been closed.
Access in and out of the Downtown carpark will still be available.
New North Rd is closed westbound through Kingsland Village following a power outage affecting traffic lights. Planned road closures and parking restrictions in the Eden Park area will be introduced at 6pm.
Queen St in Auckland’s CBD was closed earlier between Mayoral Drive and Customs St due to large numbers of people in the city.
The section of Queen St between Mayoral and Wellesley St was already closed for the Aotea Fanzone. The closure has now been extended to Customs St.
Drivers are advised to avoid the downtown CBD area or be prepared for major delays. The closures were included in contingency plans developed in preparation for the semi-finals and finals weekends.
Wellesley and Victoria Sts, which cross Queen St, will still be open to vehicles, however people travelling in the CBD are being advised to be patient and expect delays.
Bus stops have been relocated, Auckland Transport ambassadors will be advising people where to catch their bus from. Britomart Transport Centre will remain open for trains and special event buses to/from Eden Park.
