Project manager appointed to oversee seismic strengthening of council building
Hutt City Council today announced the appointment of RDT Pacific Ltd as project managers for the seismic strengthening and refurbishment of Council’s building on Laings Road.
This follows Council’s decision to stay at Laings Road instead of moving to another location in the city.
RDT Pacific has overseen a number of seismic strengthening projects including the Auckland War Memorial Museum and Rotorua Museum of Art and History.
Mayor Ray Wallace says RDT’s experience makes the company well suited for the project.
“They have worked on a number of similar projects and have an appreciation of the issues involved in strengthening heritage buildings and relocating a large workforce into temporary accommodation.”
Council officers will be meeting RDT this week to agree basic terms, set up the project structures, and begin the process for the selection of professional services to undertake the initial design studies.
The Council’s decision to strengthen the existing building includes a proviso for council officers to report back on alternative viable options during the early planning phase.
