LAKES LEISURE LAUNCHES QEC MASTER FACILITIES PLAN COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

Lakes Leisure has requested public input to the Queenstown Events Centre (QEC) Master Facilities Plan (MFP) and is kicking off the consultation process on Monday 14 November with feedback closing on Friday 9 December, 2011.

Lakes Leisure CEO Fiona McKissock said that there is currently insufficient space at the QEC to consistently give all community members the opportunity to participate in the sport or recreational activity of their choice.

“As the Council move into their Long Term Plan process it is imperative that the issues around supply and demand for sports and recreation facilities, and the potential solutions to these issues be considered now. The Council neither support nor oppose the content of the MFP, but they do fully support Lakes Leisure in our public consultation of the document. It is essential that the wider community are given the opportunity to have their say,” Ms McKissock said.

Lakes Leisure has previously consulted with members of the community who regularly use the facilities at QEC and incorporated the feedback received into the MFP. They are now looking to again consult with those regular users as well as get the wider community’s input on the proposed developments.

Lakes Leisure has requested that everyone in the community who is interested take the time to review the QEC MFP and consider providing their feedback which will be integral to both the planning process and to ensuring the community will have the sports and recreation facilities it needs in the future.

Everyone is invited to attend a casual drop in session at the QEC to talk to the Lakes Leisure team about any questions they may have where there will also be the opportunity to join a site tour. Drop in sessions will be held on the following dates:

Wednesday 16 November, 1-2pm
Tuesday 29 November, 5-6pm
Monday 5 December, 9-10am

Lakes Leisure will collate all feedback received and present it to Council for their consideration during their Long Term Plan (LTP) (2012/2022) process. Once drafted the LTP (2012/2022) will outline any provisions made for community sport and recreation and this will also be publically consulted on by Council in early 2012.

Feedback must be received by Lakes Leisure no later than 5pm, Friday 9 December, 2011.
