For Immediate Release
Malthouse on Wellington’s Courtenay Place has recently been announced as the Best Beer Venue in New Zealand for a second straight year. The annual Beer and Brewer Awards recognise the very best in beer hospitality across Australia and New Zealand and this year Malthouse picked up three awards, including the supreme accolade again.
Beer and Brewer Magazine, the most popular beer publication in Australasia, organised the prestigious competition which is now in its second year. An international panel of industry experts judged a range of categories including New Zealand’s best bar, best bottle store, best beer and beer event of the year.
This year, Malthouse won the New Zealand awards for Best Beer List (on and off-premise), Best Small Bar/Pub and Best Beer Venue overall. Malthouse also won the Best Small Bar/Pub and Best Beer Venue categories in the inaugural 2010 awards.
Proprietor Colin Mallon said the Malthouse was “delighted and honoured” at the back-to-back awards. “Everyone here works hard to consistently showcase beer at its very best. We have one of the largest beer ranges in Australasia and our staff are just brilliant at helping customers enjoy quality Kiwi craft beers and the pick of imported brews,” he said.
Director Sean Murrie said he was “stoked” Malthouse had managed to win the top prize again. “The craft beer scene in New Zealand generally and Wellington in particular continues to get better and better. There are a lot of great beer venues out there now and to receive this recognition a second time shows that we have succeeded in lifting our game as well.”
Beer and Brewer Magazine is published five times annually and is now in its fourth year of celebrating beer down under.
