Statement from Matakapua Glassie's family
A family
spokesperson for Matakapua Glassie, the 36-year-old Tokoroa
woman shot outside the town's police station on Saturday,
has today issued a release on her behalf.
The spokesperson would not be named but is a close relative. Ms Glassie's parents are at the hospital with their daughter.
"We'd like to thank everybody that's been involved with Mata's care particularly those at Tokoroa Hospital. If it wasn't for their good work, who knows what would have happened to Mata?
"Thanks to the Westpac Waikato air ambulance, the surgeons at Waikato Hospital, staff in the intensive care unit and the police for their help.
"Tokoroa is a loving community, it has a wonderful family atmosphere. Mata has lived their all her life and has many friends and family who are helping her. She is a private person and would like to be left alone to rest and recover. We would like the media to leave her and her family alone for the moment.
"It will be up to Mata to decide if and when she speaks, so for the moment we will honour her wishes."
The family spokesperson also wanted to convey their condolences to the Ginn family on the loss of Jamie. "We don't hold grudges our family. We know they are grieving too."
Matakapua Glassie remains in a critical, but stable condition, in the intensive care unit.
