Woman Killed in Two Car Crash - State Highway One - Pairere
A 37 year old Hamilton woman was killed Thursday night when the vehicle she was driving collided with another vehicle on State Highway One, Pairere, 5 kilometers south of State Highway 29.
Her northbound vehicle crossed the centre line and collided head on with a southbound vehicle resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles.
The three females, aged in their late teens and early 20's, from the southbound vehicle were cut from the wreckage by the Fire Service and taken to Waikato Hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries.
Initial investigations show that the driver of the northbound vehicle was in the midst of a text conversation.
Senior Sergeant Fane Troy of the Taupō Road Policing Group says, "This is a tragic reminder approaching the Christmas period that drivers need to be aware of the dangers of being distracted while driving. Because of one moment of inattention Christmas for a number of families will not be an enjoyable occasion."
A Taupō Road Policing Group Crash Analyst is conducting an investigation.
Weather and road conditions at the time were treacherous due to extremely heavy rain.
Speed limit in the area is 100km/hr.
The name of the deceased driver will be released once family members have been advised.
