Te Kuiti shearer Kerri-Jo Te Huia is bolting towards a goal of becoming the first woman to hsear 500 lambs in eight hours after a "magic" run of 133 in the two hours after lunch at Te Hape.
With 124 in each of the morning runs she was well above record pace but just short of that required for the personal milestone.
But the resurgence, without any lambs rejected by the judges and espite a lower bach ache, took her to afternoon smoko with a tally of 381, needing just 90 to break the record of 470 established by university graduate and Wairoa shearer Ingrid Baynes three years ago, and another 20 to pass the personal goal.
