SPCA's Lonely Hearts Looking for Love

SPCA's Lonely Hearts Looking for Love

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday 2 February 2012

The SPCA will be celebrating its annual Valentine’s Adopt-a-thon this Valentine’s Weekend, 11-12 February. SPCA Centres nationwide will be playing Cupid to the hundreds of lonely animals in their care, hoping to find loving forever homes for them all.

This year’s Adopt-a-thon is the SPCA’s fourth, with 2011’s event being its most successful to date. Over 630 animals found homes during last year’s adopt-a-thon, and the SPCA is hoping for a record 1,000 adoptions at this year’s event.

The annual Adopt-a-thon is an integral aspect of the SPCA’s Saving Lives programme, which champions the philosophy that ‘every life is precious’.

“Adopting a wonderful desexed animal from the SPCA is the best way you can help us in our Saving Lives initiatives – reducing the numbers of animals brought to us and slashing euthanasia rates nationwide,” says Robyn Kippenberger, SPCA National Chief Executive.

The Valentine’s Adopt-a-thon promises to be a heart-warming community day out, with participating SPCA Centres pulling out all the stops to make the experience a ‘love-ly’ one for humans and animals alike. Centres will be competing fiercely for the title of ‘Best Dressed Centre’, with a $1,000 gift voucher from Animates up for grabs.

Thanks to Animates, proud sponsors of this year’s SPCA Valentine’s Adopt-a-thon, discount vouchers are also available for adopters over the weekend. These vouchers will be redeemable at any Animates store with proof of adoption from the SPCA.

The SPCA will be running a photo competition to showcase the lucky animals who find their forever homes over Adopt-a-thon weekend. The winner, judged by Animates, will receive a $100 Animates gift voucher redeemable at any Animates store.

“The SPCA and Animates have a close and effective relationship,” says Ms Kippenberger. “Their support for our Valentine’s Adopt-a-thon reinforces our joint aim to make New Zealand a kinder, safer place for animals.”

The SPCA is also grateful for the support it has received for its Valentine’s Adopt-a-thon from Aeroplane Music Services, Kiwi band Avalanche City and Ideal Print Limited.
