Seaweek Events with
Wellington Zoo
Wellington is so fortunate to be so
close to coastal animals so during Seaweek, Wellington Zoo
is inviting the Wellington community to help out with two
different events to help protect our coastal
inhabitants.
On Saturday 10 March, you can join in at Wellington Zoo to build one hundred nest boxes for little blue penguins. These nest boxes will be placed around the Wellington coast as part of the Forest and Bird Places for Penguins programme to provide wild little blue penguins with great spots to raise their young. The nest box building will start at 9.30am until they are all completed.
Zoo staff will be also hosting a Coastal Clean up, with a targeted effort at Moa Point on Sunday 11 March from 11am until 2pm. Meet at Moa Point on Moa Point Road, just near the airport. Zoo staff will be there with gloves and rubbish bags for you, so look out for the people in red Zoo T-shirts.
And if you're in at the Zoo, go along to the special Little Blue Penguin Talk at 3.15pm everyday this week. To see the full programme of talks, check out the website at www.wellingtonzoo.com/net/whats-on/
