Mountain Bikers Gear Up for Rally of the Rock

Auckland, New Zealand. March 8 2012 – Registrations are now open for one of Niue Island’s most popular events, the ‘Rally of the Rock’ mountain biking challenge on June 4th, 2012.

This iconic local event has gained international recognition with mountain bike riders from New Zealand, Australia and further abroad travelling to Niue to be part of the experience and enjoy what Niue has to offer.

The annual competition sees riders challenge themselves against the terrain, the elements and the clock while they are rewarded with the stunning views and unique sights from Niue’s hard and fast bush tracks. The rally consists of several timed and ‘cruising’ stages over a total of 40 + kilometres of tracks and roads.

No-one takes the race too seriously except for the front riders making it a fun day for all involved. The event receives great local support and full coverage on local TV and radio stations.

There are major cash and travel prizes up for grabs for the overall male and female winners and place getters in each of three categories; Senior Men, Junior Men and Open Women.

Throughout the week of the event there are plenty of additional activities arranged for the international competitors including further bike rides, barbeques and famed attractions like snorkelling, diving and fishing.

Keen riders can also sign up for the inaugural ‘Round the Rock’ race which will take place on June 6th 2012. ‘Round the Rock’ will be a 60km road sprint around the whole island.
